Way to go, Joe! We found a lot to love in what one report called President Biden’s “rowdy, shouty” State of the Union address. He hit the key notes (mostly) without flaw. He touted the successes he’s achieved despite GOP roadblocks: including measures to slow climate change and restrict access to guns as well as expanding workers’ right to unionize and capping certain drug prices and bank junk fees. Looking ahead, Biden is promising to restore abortion rights, tax corporations and the wealthy, and raise the minimum wage in a second term. He called out the Republicans who refuse to pass any further meaningful legislation out of fear they will be taking away The Former Guy’s key campaign talking points. In short: Biden showed the skill and the smarts to win this election and continue moving our country toward the future we want. It’s a clear choice between a progressive leader for the people and a grievance-driven charlatan who’s only in it for himself. Now let’s text, phone, write, and knock doors to ensure our country moves in the right direction.

Super Tuesday: super newsy
With somewhere around one-third of Tuesday’s GOP voters refusing to vote for Trump, we see a very promising path to victory. And it’s a path that leads to our doorstep, as noted by George Mason University prof Michael Fauntroy: “[I]n a closely contested state like Michigan or Wisconsin, perhaps even North Carolina, if those voters stay home in November or just can’t bring themselves to vote for former President Trump, then former President Trump cannot win those states. And if he can’t win those states, he can’t win the election.”
This is exactly why we focus our work on Michigan and Wisconsin, knowing most of us live within an hour of one of those key battleground states. (Scroll down to see more.)
But squashing Trump won’t be easy. We must do the work, and more work than ever. How will YOU help stop MAGA from knocking our country off this progressive track? Sign up here for our 2024 campaign. After all, this is our future, our fight.

Bring Chicago Home: Your vote is critical
The courts have upheld this referendum and every vote will be counted. While legal challenges sought to confuse us and suppress the vote, we know this “mansion tax” is the right way to fund affordable housing and invest in programs that prevent homelessness. Please ask your friends, family, and neighbors to be sure to vote in support of this initiative. And, while we’re recruiting phone bankers and canvassers, the urgent need right now is to register more volunteers for Election Day March 19. There are phone banks that day, too.

PS: Real estate interests fighting this move to lower our tax and raise theirs will tell you it’ll result in rent increases. It’s a one-time tax on property sales, so only gougers will use this as an excuse to raise rents. |

Jackson, and Illinois congresspersons Jan Schakowsky, Chuy Garcia, Delia Ramirez, Robin Kelly, and Jonathan Jackson. And local progressive leaders including alders Andre Vasquez, Maria Hadden, and Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth and state reps Kam Buckner and Ann Williams; and a long list of unions including the Chicago Teachers' Union, SEIU, and the Chicago Fire Fighters' Union Local 2; and progressive organizations such as the Sierra Club, Citizen Action, Equality Illinois, and the People’s Lobby. Find the full list here. His opponent, Eileen O’Neill Burke, has just been backed by the MAGA leader of the Fraternal Order of Police, John Catanzara, who suggests that Republican cops pull a Dem ballot to vote for her. She's also supported by conservative GOP donors who poured money into Trumped-up candidates like J.D. Vance, Herschel Walker, and Dr. Mehmet Oz. She has been criticized for her record as a prosecutor and judge and is repeatedly pressed to explain her role in the wrongful conviction of a Black boy accused of killing an elderly white woman when he was 10 years old.
Check out our comparison of the two candidates, then sign up for Harris phone banks held on Thursdays and Sundays. |

Alliance, she built a track record of policy making, coalition building, and working with communities to improve public health and safety. Although many of us respect Davis’s decades of service, he shows signs of slowing down. His own website's list of achievements apparently hasn’t been updated in at least two years. We backed Kina two years ago, and our grassroots support helped boost her to within just a couple points of victory. This year we know she can win—if we do the work. Will you join us? Graciela Guzman for State Senator
We’re proud to be supporting Graciela Guzman for State Senator in the north side’s 20th district. A proven progressive, Graciela has dedicated her life to fighting for workers’ rights, immigrant justice, and access to healthcare. Many of us worked alongside her this year to support the influx of migrants to our city. Join us as we canvass every Sunday for Graciela and (bonus!) also for the Bring Chicago Home initiative.

Winning Wisconsin
➔ A newly-drawn map gives us three times as many contested races as the GOP gerrymandered version tossed out by the courts. So there are lots of gains to make in this pivotal state. Join the Milwaukee Voter Project and register new voters in underserved areas. Volunteers love this chance to make a difference working indoors in comfortable DMV offices, registering people who are waiting in lines and have IDs in hand. The next one-hour Zoom training is Tuesday March 12. To register for this or other dates, email info@milwaukeevoterproject.org.
