MAGA brings the circus. We'll bring the big tent.

Primary season is over in our corner of the world; now, as MAGA’s clown car of candidates rolls up, it’s time for Democrats to show the power of the Big Tent Party. Any notion of Democratic disarray—real or imagined—can be set aside. To accomplish that, let’s review the Five Ws and an H of the situation.

The Who, What, and Where:

Pictured above: Milwaukee’s David Crowley, who will take on election denier Tom Tiffany for governor of Wisconsin. Michigan's Abdul El-Sayed, who will oppose Trump yes-man Mike Rogers in a must-win race for U.S. Senate. And Jocelyn Benson, who will contend with MAGA favorite John James for governor of Michigan. Competitive congressional races abound in each state as well—notably Sean McCann in MI-04, Rebecca Cooke in WI-03, and Mitchell Berman in WI-01—each with a chance to flip a MAGA-held Congressional seat.

The Why: Surely the last eighteen months have been a lesson in the fragility of a democracy. And there's certainly no need to enumerate all of the low, lower, and lowest exploits of this cruel, corrupt, and destructive regime. We know too well. But just in case you need a bit more convincing, consider that two of the candidates pictured above, when successful, will play a role in certifying the electors after the 2028 election.

The When? Now!

And here’s the How:

Wisconsin

Winning Wisconsin is an imperative, and Crowley, Berman, and others need all hands on deck. Indivisible Chicago is organizing both remote and in-person ways to help:

➔ Join our Wisconsin Wednesday Phone Bank on August 19 (tomorrow!)  and talk to voters using the innovative Ground Truth approach. Training and support are provided, and you will have meaningful conversations with voters of all stripes.

➔ Travel to Milwaukee to canvass on Saturday, August 22, for Mitch Berman, a progressive Democrat with a good shot at unseating a Republican incumbent. In the bargain we’ll be helping elect a Democratic governor. Sign up here.

Join the Wisconsin Democrats Voter Protection Team, which provides election-protection opportunities including voter assistance and monitoring in WI-01, just across the Illinois border. Sign up to be a poll observer (you don't have to be a Wisconsin resident); attend a Zoom session to learn what it takes; or get trained to staff the hotline that will answer voters' questions and help them cure their ballots. A full range of opportunities is available here.

Michigan

Michigan can show the way when it comes to uniting Democrats across the political spectrum. And you can help!

➔ Contact voters through our Michigan Monday Phone Bank August 24. As usual with Indivisible Chicago phone banks, we provide all the training and support you'll need, even if you are a complete rookie. Sign up here.

➔ Join us knocking doors in Southwest Michigan Sunday, August 30 as we fight to flip the 4th Congressional district and win the races for U.S. Senate and Governor.

Join the Michigan Democrats Voter Protection Team, which needs volunteers for election-protection roles including hotline and poll-observer work. Training is required and will be provided.

More election activities

➔ Learn the basics of election protection and how to volunteer for Indivisible's national effort in consecutive Zoom sessions Wednesday August 19 and 26. The programs will complement each other but there's no need to attend both. Sign up at Hands Off Our Vote.

➔ Write postcards to voters in swing states: Indivisible Chicago hosts numerous postcard parties across the city. Check our calendar to find one near you. Or go here to learn about getting postcards to write at home.

How to defeat MAGA malevolence

Don't fret that Trump and his toadies will do anything to get the election outcome they want—of course they will! But remember the lesson that Hungarian voters just taught Viktor Orban: if we win big enough, nothing they do will matter. So our goal this year is not just to win—it's to produce a landslide that will bury MAGA for good.

You’ll find all our electoral actions on the Indivisible Chicago Action Calendar, on our Linktree (scroll down to "Midterm Election"), and on our Mobilize page. We're constantly adding new opportunities, so check in often. And be sure you're signed up to get Daily Actions delivered to your inbox every weekday. Whatever your interests, skills, or schedule, we have a way for you to help—and we need your help to make this an unstealable election. Bring friends!
