Will Chicago become a progressive model or take a sharp right turn? Will Wisconsin lock up GOP control or protect Democratic votes? That’s what’s on the ballot April 4
Here in Chicago and across the border in Wisconsin, voters are staring at the same red/blue divide that has paralyzed our nation. On Election Day, they can choose to bridge that divide by protecting the rights of each of us, or let right wing extremists seize control.
You surely know the stakes are high in Chicago, where early voting is underway. Our options: Paul Vallas, a self-proclaimed “law and order” candidate backed by right-wing extremists, and Brandon Johnson, running on a people-first platform backed by a rainbow coalition of neighbors as well as local and national leaders. Meanwhile, in Wisconsin, a win by our candidate Janet Protasiewicz in the runoff for a pivotal State Supreme Court seat would shift the court’s balance to a progressive majority. That change could prove decisive in the 2024 Presidential election.
Once again, it’s not enough just to vote.
In 2020, we turned back a red wave with commitment and hard work. Let’s do it again!
Paul Vallas said he’s “fundamentally more of a Republican” but now claims to be a “lifelong Democrat”? This is the same double-talk he uses when he cozies up to right wing extremists and then insists he’s not one of them. Read our research on his real record of tax increases, mismanagement and hostility to public schools. Then join our campaign to elect Brandon Johnson for a people-first administration that flips the script on Chicago’s history of catering to downtown developers and playing favorites with communities that thrive while others suffer through shrinking education, mental health care and other services. It’s time to build safer, stronger communities across the city. This is our moment. And this is why Indivisible Chicago Alliance has endorsed Brandon Johnson.
Here’s how to help win the change we want:
Citywide phone banks—Monday through Thursday 5-8 pm, Sunday 1-4 pm
Rally with Bernie March 30: Join this Get Out the Vote Rally at the UIC Forum, 1213 S. Halsted, with Senator Bernie Sanders, Vic Mensa, and other special guests. This citywide rally will be a critical show of force before Election Day. Plan to be there, with friends and family. Doors open 6pm, Event begins 7pm. Register here.
Save the date April 1: Details coming soon on this grassroots GOTV rally to boost voter turnout. Location and timing TBD.
Vote tripling: Who do you know that is aligned with our shared values but might not feel it’s important to vote? Maximize your impact by taking responsibility for getting at least three other Johnson supporters to the polls.
Not registered to vote? No problem! Registration is open at the polls on election day so we can go, register, and vote all at once. Anyone not already registered will just need to bring two forms of ID.
Pass it on: There’s no place in our city for extremist views on education…
It’s not a coincidence that Paul Vallas appeared at a fundraiser for the extremist group Awake Illinois. This group leads the mostly suburban, homophobic and transphobic movement to censor books in school libraries and take over local school boards. Though he eventually denounced the group, Vallas has spoken out about Black history curriculum, calling it “divisive” and “a dangerous thing” that “further undermines the relationship of children with their parents.”
…not when we can have a Mayor who truly values public education.
A former teacher, Brandon Johnson doesn’t let culture wars talking points take priority over steps that will actually improve our schools. Here’s his promise: “Every school should have a library and librarian, adequate clinicians and counselors, thriving arts offerings and sports programs and teams. And the Mayor of Chicago has an obligation to be actively fighting in partnership for the revenue required to fulfill those basic needs for every school in the city, not just some.”
CHICAGO Aldermanic runoff races
There are also runoffs in 14 ward races — the 4th, 5th, 6th, 10th, 11th, 21st, 24th, 29th, 30th, 36th, 43rd, 45th, 46th, and 48th wards. There’s so much riding on this state Supreme Court Election
Will Wisconsin start enforcing an abortion ban passed in 1849? Will Republicans keep their grip on power through voter suppression and rigged elections, threatening to tip the 2024 Presidential election? These questions and many more are on the ballot in this runoff election, because they’ll be among the issues decided by the new court.
We must ensure that Judge Janet Protasiewicz is elected to Wisconsin's Supreme Court on April 4 to give progressives a 4-3 majority on the court. This win will help safeguard women's reproductive freedoms and help Governor Tony Evers protect the state (and the nation!) from the extremism of Wisconsin's egregiously gerrymandered legislature. The alternative is Dan Kelly, an election denier and a rabid opponent of abortion rights, supported by Trump and the Republican money machine.
Here’s how you can help elect Judge Janet:
Saturday, April 1: Hop on the bus to canvass in Milwaukee!
Wednesdays: Indivisible Chicago Phone Bank to Flip the WI Supreme Court
Thursday, March 30: Text Party for Janet Protasiewicz 6-8pm
Saturdays and Sundays: WisDems and Bay View Indivisible Milwaukee Canvass
Multiple Days: WisDems Phone Banks to Voters
Multiple Days: Register voters with Field Team 6 Phone Banks and "Texting Arcades"
Thank you for helping make the most of the few days we have remaining to win the change we want for Chicago, Wisconsin, and the country.
