Thursday, October 13 - Canvass for Lauren Underwood / Rally for Jan 6 Committee / Why Money Bail Harms Survivors

Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: Canvass for Lauren Underwood 10/16

Help send Lauren Underwood back to Congress! We are going to Joliet to introduce new parts of the 14th district to Lauren Underwood. These new constituents aren’t used to voting in mid-year elections--to win, Lauren needs them to come out in November. We will arrange carpools from Chicago, and pair you with a veteran canvasser if this is your first time or you need a refresher. Let us know if you need a ride—meetup locations will be determined soon.

We will gather at the Underwood campaign office at 2175 Oneida St., Joliet at 12pm October 16th.

Action 2: Rally in Support of Jan 6 Committee

Join us as we rally to demand January 6 justice with full accountability for former President Donald Trump and his MAGA allies.

Chicago is one of dozens of cities holding Jan. 6 Justice: Our Freedoms, Our Vote rallies, marches, and other events nationwide this week to demand accountability for Trump and his MAGA allies and to draw attention to the continued threat they pose to free and fair elections — this November and beyond.

Trump and MAGA Republicans engaged in a violent criminal conspiracy to overturn an election they lost. They knew their actions were illegal. They have shown they will break the law and engage in violence in order to gain and stay in power. They are continuing to undermine our freedoms and our democracy on every level. We’re drawing attention to the continued threat they pose to free and fair elections — this November and beyond. They must be held accountable.

WHERE: Chicago’s Federal Plaza, 219 S. Dearborn St.

WHEN: Monday, October 17, 5:30 p.m.

Sign up here to let us know you are coming and share our Facebook event.

Action 3: TODAY: Why Money Bond Harms Survivors 10/13

Join Ascend Justice, Women’s Justice Institute, and Chicago Community Bond Fund for a teach-in about the impact that money bond has on survivors of gender-based violence in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. During this teach-in, we will hear from criminalized survivors who are currently incarcerated at Logan Correctional Institution about the violence of pretrial incarceration and the support they deserve.

Join the virtual event TODAY Thursday, October 13 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
