TIF 101 for Candidates & Campaigners on 1/7

If you are running for office in Chicago or helping someone run - then you MUST know about Chicago's out-of-control TIF program! Chicago's Tax Increment Financing Program (TIFs) have been in place since 1986. This workshop is aimed at candidates, campaigners, and community advocates and will explain how TIFs work and reveal hitherto unknown details about this massive program.

We will share the headlines from CivicLab's report on all of Chicago's active TIFs for 2021. We will cover the basics of how TIFs work and walk through the public policy issues that TIFs present to our communities.

The presenters will be Phillip Thomas and Tom Tresser of the CivicLab's TIF Illumination Project. We have presented on civic finances at over 185 public meetings since 2013!
