Actions You Can Take Today
Action 1: Call your state rep and senator to demand they vote YES for HB5522 The Assault Weapons Ban in the special session
Action 2: Volunteer as a poll observer in Wisconsin on Tuesday, August 9 — virtual training commitment required
Action 1: Ban Assault Weapons in Illinois
Illinois can be the first state to ban assault weapons. Governor Pritzker has said that he is calling a special session of the legislature to strengthen our laws protecting abortion. The legislature could pass the assault weapons ban at the same time.
This is what you can do right now to make sure what happened in Highland Park does not happen in your community:
Call and say this: "Hello. My name is _________. I live in [YOUR TOWN]. I ask that you please vote YES for HB5522 The Assault Weapons Ban in Special Session."
Then ask your friends and family in every county in the state to do the same.
Put your reps’ phone numbers in your speed dial and call them every day with the exact same message until they do it.

Action 2: WI Poll Observers Needed on 8/9
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, August 9th! We need you at the polls to ensure every eligible voter can cast a ballot and have their voice heard in Wisconsin's 2022 Partisan Primary.
Poll observers are the eyes and ears for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin’s Voter Protection Team inside polling locations across the state. You will be a crucial resource to support voters and the first to report any issues voters are facing at the polling place, which makes poll observing the single most important thing you can do other than cast a ballot yourself to ensure a strong, healthy democracy.
No previous experience or legal training is necessary, and you do not need to be a Wisconsin resident. You will be provided with all the information and written materials you need to be a poll observer, and you will be supported by an experienced legal boiler room every step of the way.
There is are 2 required virtual trainings you must attend to qualify with multiple scheduled times available. Find all of the information you need and the signup form here.
