Thursday, August 11 - Confronting Disinformation at School Board Meetings / Pass Marriage Equality

Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: Confronting Disinformation at School Board Meetings on 8/17

Confronting disinformation at School Board meetings and fighting for accurate, honest public education is IMPERATIVE in all our Local Communities and School Boards.

Please join the Indivisible Illinois Social Justice Alliance (IISJA) event with special guest speakers, Joyce Slavik and Jim McGrath of NWSOFA. Joyce and Jim will cover disinformation in school boards covering race, gender identity and curriculum white washing.

This is a forum to share, strategize and collaborate. School board members and non-school board members are invited to attend, learn and contribute to what is happening locally, across Illinois and nationally.

There is an organized effort to spread disinformation. We need to understand who is sponsoring the disinformation and how to stop it. Conservative activists are promoting racist policies, unseating duly elected officials, disrupting our local school board meetings and banning books. They have a history of creating unsafe schools by supporting anti-masking, anti-vaccination and attacking trans-kids.

Learn what we can do to level the playing field! Join the virtual event on Wednesday, August 17 at 7:30 p.m.

Action 1: Tell Senators to Pass Marriage Equality & Right to Contraception Bills

Following the Dobbs decision, same-sex marriage is now on the chopping block for the Republican Supreme Court. We cannot allow the MAGA-led rollback of our rights to continue -- not while our senators have the power to intervene. Voting against these bills would be wildly unpopular and put these politicians’ careers in jeopardy (which is why we saw some House Republicans vote with Democrats on these bills).

Let our Senators know you want them to pass the Respect for Marriage Act immediately. We can’t afford to wait while our fundamental rights are being stripped before our very eyes, like with abortion rights.
