Action 1: Jail Voter Registration Training on Friday
In the June primary election, 25% of people detained in Cook County Jail voted. That’s compared to 20% of the overall Chicago population. In hopes of topping that in the fall general elections, Chicago Votes will be back registering voters in the jail this month. Read more about elections in the jail in “Cook County Jail Detainees Had A Higher Voter Turnout In The Primary Than The City As A Whole.”
Interested in registering voters inside the jail? The first step is to attend a Cook County Jail Votes training. Cook County Jail Votes trainings occur virtually, on a monthly basis. Attending a training is REQUIRED in order to enter the jail.
The next training will be THIS Friday, August 5th at 5 pm.

Action 2: Wisconsin Canvassing on Saturday
On Saturday, August 6 join us knocking doors in neighboring Wisconsin to help win critical contests this year for Governor and U.S. Senate in this key battleground state. We'll depart Chicago at 7:15am from Backlot Coffee (3982 N Avondale Ave) for Waukesha. Following a briefing at 9:00am, we'll canvass the rest of the morning with partners from the Waukesha Democratic Party, then de-brief over pizza.
Anyone who wants to can continue to canvass during the afternoon. We’ll arrange deep canvassing, minivan training, and info needed to have effective one-on-one conversations with voters and pair you with a veteran canvasser if this is your first time or you need a refresher. Carpools are available for those who need a ride.
Action 3: Wisconsin Text Banking on 8/8
Text banking is a way to reach out to hundreds of voters all at once, from the comfort of your own home. New to the concept? Don’t worry, we’ll train you and stick with you throughout the session to guide you and answer questions. This week we’re texting ahead of the Wisconsin primary to support Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes, Indivisible’s choice to take on Ron Johnson and pick up a Senate seat.
Join the next text banking session on Monday, August 8 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. We’ll soon be scheduling more texting and training events for later in the summer. Or go to our volunteer page and check the box for texting to be informed of future opportunities.
While some of these Daily Actions come from our own work as Indivisible Chicago Alliance, others are from our many partners working to advance the progressive agenda. We invite you to join us in supporting their work. Postings from partners do not imply Indivisible Chicago Alliance endorsement of specific policies and positions.
