Action 1: Michigan Canvass on Sunday
Next door in Michigan, the fight is on right now to preserve access to abortion and save democracy in this key battleground state. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is all that stands in the way of a right-wing Republican legislature seeking to criminalize abortion and subvert free and fair elections.
Join us for canvassing in Michigan on September 18 from 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM at 2517 Niles Ave, Saint Joseph, MI. For those interested in carpooling, we'll be meeting at Backlot Coffee, 3982 N Avondale Ave, for a 7:30 am departure (everyone will be asked to test for covid and wear masks).
Action 2: Bodily Autonomy Sanctuary City Ordinance
The Chicago City Council is considering offering protections for people who travel from out-of-state to get abortion care. According to WBEZ, The Bodily Autonomy Sanctuary City Ordinance “would prohibit the Chicago Police Department, or any other city employee, from carrying out search warrants, sharing data, or assisting in investigations related to other states’ laws that restrict ‘bodily autonomy’ in a way that’s ‘inconsistent’ with Illinois law.”
We urge you to call your member of City Council and urge them to VOTE YES for the Bodily Autonomy Sanctuary City Ordinance and protect everyone's fundamental right to make personal health care decisions, including decisions related to reproductive and gender-affirming care.
