Action 2: Donate for Clean Water in Jackson, MS

President Biden declared a state of emergency in Mississippi due to the water crisis in the city of Jackson. The city of 150,000 people has no access to clean water in their taps for drinking, cooking, or washing. The situation is tragic, dire, and should not be happening.

Jackson’s tax base has eroded over recent decades as the population decreased — the result of mostly white flight to suburbs that began after public schools were integrated in 1970. Jackon’s population is more than 80% Black, with about 25% of its residents living in poverty.

If you have the means, consider supporting organizations on the ground in Jackson providing clean water to the people who live there.

While some of these Daily Actions come from our own work as Indivisible Chicago Alliance, others are from our many partners working to advance the progressive agenda. We invite you to join us in supporting their work. Postings from partners do not imply Indivisible Chicago Alliance endorsement of specific policies and positions.
