Action 1: WisDems Voter Protection Kickoff TONIGHT
If you didn’t know Wisconsin had another election coming up, you are not alone. Right now, conservatives control the state's supreme court by a 4-3 majority, but with the conservative Chief Justice retiring, we have the opportunity to flip the court and make real progress for Wisconsinites. Conservatives on the state Supreme Court have handed down some of the most damaging voting rights decisions nationwide just in the past year (anyone remember ballot dropboxes or the abandonment of fairer maps?).
And after Joe Biden’s victory in 2020, the court was a hair's breadth from throwing out hundreds of thousands of validly-cast ballots and flipping the state to Donald Trump—that only didn’t happen because one conservative justice voted with the progressives on the court to uphold the fundamental democratic premise that all legally voted ballots should count. This is our chance to change all that and secure a progressive majority!
The election is in less than 90 days, so WidDems are kicking off their 2023 Voter Protection program on Thursday, January 19th, at 6pm CT on Zoom. WisDems Chair Ben Wikler will talk through the plan to flip the court, and why Voter Protection work is once again at the forefront of our fight for democracy in Wisconsin.

Action 2: Your Vote for District Council Event 1/31
Now that the Empowering Communities for Public Safety (ECPS) ordinance is in effect, citizens in each of Chicago's 22 police districts will be electing 3 council members to represent the community on their newly established District Council. In short, each of Chicago's 22 District Councils will have 3 council members representing the community in their police district.
On Tuesday, January 31 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Indivisible Chicago-South Side invites you to attend a Zoom info session on the ECPS ordinance and Chicago's new District Councils: "Your Vote for District Council: Toward Community Control of Police."
The info session will open with a teach-in on ECPS by Frank Chapman of CAARPR, including an explanation of the role of the newly established police District Councils. Then we'll hear from the four candidates running for the District Council in the 2nd police district: Coston Plummer, Julia Kline, Ephraim Lee, Alexander J. Perez.
Even if you don't live in the 2nd police district, our info session will still have important information for you about the ECPS ordinance and the election. RSVP here
