Action 1: Act for IL Gun Safety
The lame duck session in Illinois begins today, and gun violence prevention legislation is on the agenda in the form of the Protect Illinois Communities Act.
This bill would:
Ban assault weapons, high capacity magazines, and rapid firing devices
Raise the age to purchase a firearm to 21
Extend the duration of Firearm Restraining Orders (FRO) from 6 months to 1 year
Address illegal gun trafficking
We need your help with three critical actions to make sure this bill gets passed in its entirety.
1. Join us in Springfield on January 5th for a rally, meetings with legislators, and a press event. Chartered buses will be provided from across Illinois.
2. Register for virtual phone banks TODAY to call gun violence prevention supporters in key districts across the state to ask them to call their senators.
3. Call your State Senator and ask them to vote YES on the *entire* Protect Illinois Communities Act. You can find your legislator here.
Call script: “Hello, my name is _____, and I am your constituent. I live in _____. I am a volunteer with March For Our Lives, and I am calling to encourage you to vote YES on the Protect IL Communities Act during the lame duck session. This legislation will curb gun violence in our state by banning future sales of assault weapons, high capacity magazines, and rapid firing devices, tackling gun trafficking, extending the length of a firearms restraining order, and raising the age to 21 to obtain a FOID card. Again, please vote YES on every part of this legislation to address gun violence.”
