Action 2: Protect Gender-Affirming Care in Illinois
Brave Space Alliance, the Southside LGBTQ+ Center, has heard that Moderate Democrats in the State Senate want to remove sanctuary protections for trans people and gender-affirming care from proposed legislation that would make IL a sanctuary state for abortion and other reproductive healthcare. Trans people CANNOT be left behind because of the cowardice of a few.
Illinois has some of the strongest protections for trans people of any state. When Illinois passes these laws, we are making a promise to protect the most vulnerable in our communities, and those who come here seeking refuge.
Governor Pritzker and a Democratic Supermajority in both houses of the General Assembly were elected to keep that promise. We have to make sure they follow through!!
Call your elected officials and DEMAND that they refuse to advance or sign legislation for reproductive health protection that doesn't include trans people and gender-affirming care. DEMAND that they keep their promise to trans people around the country that they will be safe in Illinois.
Governor JB Pritzker: (312) 814-2121 OR (217) 782-0244
House Speaker Chris Welch: (708) 450-1000 OR (217) 782-5350
Senate President Don Harmon: (708) 828-2002 OR (217) 782-8176

Action 3: Tell Virginia Voters to Protect Abortion
Tuesday’s special election in Virginia will determine whether the legislature can make abortion illegal. Anti-abortion Republicans control the Governorship and the state house. In the Senate, it’s currently 20-20 on making abortion illegal. If pro-choice Democrat Aaron Rouse wins Tuesday’s special election for an open Senate seat, Virginians can protect abortion rights in their state.
Special elections like this can be won or lost by just a few votes. You can sign up with our partner Swing Left to call Virginia voters this weekend to encourage them to get to the polls on Tuesday.
