Action You Can Take Today

Action 1: URGENT - Witness Slip for Affordable Prescription Drugs

Big Pharma points to research and development costs as the reason why prescription drug costs are so high. After their patents expire and exclusivity periods end, drug costs are supposed to decrease. But in practice, even costs for generic and off-patent drugs are skyrocketing, drugs for which research and development costs have already been recouped.

A federal study by the Government Accountability Office looked at 1,441 generic drugs. It found that more than 300 had seen prices at least double between 2010 and 2015. These absurd price increases can mean the difference between an individual being able to access lifesaving medication or not.

The Illinois Generic Drug Pricing Fairness Act (HB 3957) will protect Illinois consumers by defining price-gouging thresholds and empowering the Illinois Attorney General to investigate excessive price increases.

HB 3957 is heading to the House Prescription Drug Affordability and Accessibility Committee TODAY. Sign a witness slip in support before 4 p.m.!

Action 2: Tell Walgreens to Protect Access to Abortion Care

It’s easy to tell Walgreens leaders they must restore women’s right to access abortion medication in all 50 states. Write to Lisa Badgley Senior Vice President, Operations; Tracey Brown President of Walgreens Retail and Chief Customer Officer; and Rick Gates Senior Vice President, Pharmacy and Healthcare.

Use this form and tell them: as long as they deny women access to abortion pills, you'll deny them your patronage.

Share this and pass it on and let's send a message!
