Action You Can Take Today

Action 1: Fight Deceptive Crisis Pregnancy Centers

There has been a lot of difficult news lately when it comes to abortion access. It can be easy to feel helpless or believe there is nothing you can do. But we’re here to assure you that there is always a way to keep fighting for what is right.

There is a bright spot here in Illinois that continues to provide hope: On March 31st, the Illinois Senate passed Senate Bill 1909 (SB1909) with a 36-19 vote. This is a major step toward holding anti-abortion “crisis pregnancy centers” (CPCs) accountable for their deceptive practices aimed at abortion seekers in our state.

We cannot afford to rest now, because we still need SB1909 to pass out of the House of Representatives before the Illinois General Assembly ends its session for the summer.

Yours may be the voice that reaches an elected official who did not realize CPCs use digital marketing to mislead patients, deceptive messaging on their websites to disguise their anti-abortion mission, and dangerous medical disinformation to steer people away from seeking care.

That’s why we need to continue flooding the phone lines and email inboxes of our state representatives, urging them to support SB1909. It only takes two minutes, and all of the tools you need are in one place.

If signed into law, SB1909 would create a mechanism for the Illinois Attorney General to bring legal action against CPCs for deceiving and misinforming pregnant people. Read about it here.

With so much uncertainty about abortion access in the future, we must take action to improve access and promote bodily autonomy however we can. Thank you for your dedication to this important cause, and for taking the time to contact your Illinois state representative with this important information. Encourage your friends to do the same!
