Wednesday, March 27 - Pass the Prescription Drug Affordability Act / Election Letter Writing

Actions You Can Take

Action 1: Pass the Prescription Drug Affordability Act

The Prescription Drug Act has been assigned to the House Healthcare Availability & Access Committee. If passed, HB4472/SB3108 would create a Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB) - an independent body with the power to rein in the skyrocketing costs of medications.

Prescription drug costs have reached unprecedented levels. Far too many people are being forced to choose between affording their prescriptions and other necessities like rent or groceries. In a time when 28% of Illinoisans have reported that they either rationed their medications or given them up entirely due to cost, it is clear that urgent action on this issue is needed.

Even if you aren’t taking prescription drugs, you are still likely to be affected by this issue. One-third of insurance premiums are directly attributed to high-cost drugs, and insurers will continue to raise premiums to compensate for rising drug costs.

Prescription drugs don’t work if you can’t afford them. A PDAB is the solution we need to ensure that all Illinoisans pay only what is fair for the medications they need.

Join us in this crucial fight for affordable medications. Sign this petition and make your voice heard: tell the House Healthcare Availability & Access Committee to pass the Prescription Drug Affordability Act!

Action 2: Election Letter Writing 4/4

Indivisible Chicago-South Side is writing Vote Forward letters to people in Michigan and Wisconsin -- both are critical to this year's election. Write from your heart or use our tried and true suggestions.

Letters, envelopes, and pens provided. We encourage you to bring first-class stamps to donate.

Appetizers furnished, BYOB to share - meals available from THE NILE.

Bonus opportunity: At our April 4 event, take home a "party favor": a packet of voter-registration info postcards to fill out and send to Michigan citizens not yet registered to vote. This is part of a pilot project that Indivisible Chicago is participating in for Statewide Indivisible Michigan (SWIM).

RSVP here via email for the event on Thursday, April 4, 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Nile Restaurant (1162 E 55th St).
