Actions You Can Take

Action 1: Fighting Poverty from The Ground Up 4/15

Join Indivisible Illinois on Monday April 15 at 7:30 pm CDT on Zoom for a panel discussion on how people are affected by poverty, what is being done to fight it, and how activists can help. The panel will include:

Kyle Patterson, City of Champaign Township Supervisor: Mr. Patterson has previously been a case manager for Cunningham Township as well as past chair of the Champaign County Board.

Jessica Motsinger, Illinois Poor People's Campaign Tri-Chair: Ms. Motsinger is also the lead for Indivisible Rural Illinois as well as co-lead for Indivisible Metro East.

Chris Todd, Program Administrator for Champaign-Urbana's Food and More Food Pantry: The Food and More Food Pantry is all-volunteer led and staffed. It is the product of a collaborative effort among several houses of worship.

LaToya Greenwood, Democratic Central Committeewoman for Congressional District IL-13: While a state representative from 2017-2023, Ms. Greenwood worked on legislation to help underserved communities. She is currently the Democratic candidate for State Representative in IL-114.

Learn how poverty affects households, about the work that these speakers are doing on the ground, what types of opportunities are out there for us to help, and how we can influence our legislators locally, statewide, and nationally to pass legislation and ordinances that help fight poverty.

Action 2: Demand a Permanent Ceasefire

The ongoing Israeli bombardment and blockade in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of over 33,000 Palestinians, including more than 12,300 children, with 1.5 million people displaced in unimaginable conditions. Some US officials think a famine has already begun — what might be the most intense famine since the second world war. Children are already dying of malnutrition, and many more will die if the Israel army continues to block aid from reaching Gaza.

We urge our members of Congress to support an immediate ceasefire, to ensure humanitarian aid to residents of Gaza, to continue to demand the release of all hostages, and to block US military aid to Israel that would cause additional civilian deaths in Gaza. Please join us by contacting your Representative, and Senators Duckworth and Durbin with these same demands. Call them daily—it makes a difference!

While some of these Daily Actions come from our own work as Indivisible Chicago Alliance, others are from our many partners working to advance the progressive agenda. We invite you to join us in supporting their work. Postings from partners do not imply Indivisible Chicago Alliance endorsement of specific policies and positions.
