Action 1: Exclusive Screening of Bad River 6/20
For years, the National Wildlife Federation has been working with the Bad River Band of the lake Superior Chippewa in Wisconsin as part of the campaign to Shut Down Line 5. On June 20 at the Chicago Botanic Gardens, NWF is hosting a free screening of the documentary Bad River, that tells the story of the Band’s history of resistance including current their fight against the Enbridge and Line 5.
Bad River is a powerful documentary that chronicles the Wisconsin-based Bad River Band’s ongoing fight for sovereignty, which unfolds in a groundbreaking way through a series of shocking revelations, devastating losses, and a powerful legacy of defiance and resilience. The film sweeps through history and culminates in the present with a David and Goliath battle over a 70-year-old oil pipeline that is one spring flood away from a rupture, which would devastate Lake Superior, the largest freshwater resource in America. As Eldred Corbine, a Bad River Tribal Elder declares in the film… “we gotta protect it… die for it, if we have to.”
See the film that critics are calling “an exceptional testament to Native resilience,” and “an important story, another call to think about not only the ancestors who made this land but also how we’re leaving it for future generations.” The film is narrated by Quannah ChasingHorse and Academy-Award nominee, Edward Norton.
When: June 20, 5:30pm
Where: Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Rd., Glencoe, IL 60022
A reception with a complimentary open bar and passed hors d’oeuvres will precede the screening and panel discussion. The film will start at 7pm.
