Thursday, January 2 - Don’t Let Linda McMahon Become Secretary of Education / Tell Biden to Certify the ERA

Actions You Can Take

Action 1: Oppose Linda McMahon

The future of our Department of Education—and the millions of students who depend on it—is in jeopardy. Donald Trump has nominated Linda McMahon, a billionaire with a troubling track record, to lead this vital agency.

McMahon has openly stated her desire to defund public schools and privatize our education system. Her potential confirmation could mean devastating consequences:

  • Book bans that limit access to diverse voices

  • Rollbacks of Title IX protections for transgender students

  • Erosion of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs

What's more, she lacks any significant background in education. The Department of Education is crucial for ensuring that every student has the opportunity to learn and succeed. If McMahon is confirmed, we risk rising tuition, closing schools, and increasing student debt.

Call your senators and urge them to OPPOSE Linda McMahon as Secretary of Education. Our students deserve better!

Actions 2: Tell Biden to Certify the ERA

Women in the United States still lack guaranteed equal rights, with dire consequences. The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) has been fully ratified since 2020 and just needs one action to be added to the Constitution.

The ERA is vital for protecting against rights rollbacks, empowering the judicial system to tackle sex discrimination, and advancing gender equality. Urge President Biden to instruct the US Archivist to certify and publish the ERA.

Here are five things you can do between now and the end of the year. Take the challenge and do all of them before President Biden’s term ends!

  1. Call the White House Comment Line: 202-456-1111 (Open Tuesday–Thursday from 10:00 am–2:00 pm CT)

  2. Send an email to the White House

  3. Sign the League of Women Voters letter

  4. Contact your US representative and US senators and urge them to pressure President Biden

  5. Share this with your friends!

SAMPLE MESSAGE

I urge President Biden to instruct the US Archivist to certify the Equal Rights Amendment. The ERA has met all requirements for ratification. Women’s rights are under attack. The president has the authority to act and must do so with urgency.
