Friday, March 7 - Protect the Department of Education / ICA Events This Weekend! / Families Over Billionaires Phonebank
Partner Action: Protect the Department of Education
An executive order to abolish the Department of Education is expected soon. This order will have a two-part strategy: first, it will use executive authority to reduce the department’s functionality and workforce; second, it will propose a legislative plan to redistribute its power to other agencies until it is ultimately closed.
House Republicans have also reintroduced H.R. 899, a bill to eliminate the Department of Education. These changes would cut federal funding for public schools, eliminate support for students with disabilities, end civil rights protections in education, and abolish federal student loan and workforce development programs.
This is a direct attack on students, teachers, and families, benefiting right-wing extremists seeking to privatize education.
👉 Urge your House Representative to protect the Department of Education and oppose H.R. 899.

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [zip code]. I'm calling to demand that [NAME] oppose any legislation, including H.R. 899, or efforts by the executive branch to abolish the Department of Education. Eliminating the department would devastate public schools, hurt students with disabilities, strip away civil rights protections for millions of students, and eliminate crucial workforce development programs that boost our economy. Education is a fundamental right, not a privilege for the wealthy.

As Trump dismantles our democracy day by day, Betty Alzamora of Indivisible Chicago has a clear message: we have to stay in the streets. We have to maintain a sustained presence, displaying publicly that we will not allow Trump, MAGA, Musk and his billionaire crew to steal from the poor to give to the rich.
Through protest we can make sure that the horrific reality of a Trump presidency is always in the face of everyday folks. This can help move public perception and lead to sweeping change at the midterms.
👉 We need you this weekend and the weeks ahead. Pick a day (or a few); pick a protest (or more than one); bring your friends.

Americans are struggling with rising costs, yet instead of delivering relief, Trump is pushing cuts to essential services like Medicaid, SNAP, and public education. He’s not helping anyone’s pocketbook—he’s making things worse.
And Illinois’ three House Republicans? They’re right there with him, doing whatever it takes to please Trump and his extremist agenda.
These services that millions of Illinoisans rely on are a right. Yet Congress is still considering devastating cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and education—just to fund tax breaks for billionaires. We cannot let them get away with this.
