ICA & Partner Action: Rally for the CFPB TODAY

Financial safety and stability. A bulwark against another financial crisis. Access to safe banking products. Protections from digital payment scams and telemarketers. These are things we count on the CFPB to provide.

But right now there is an unprecedented attack on the CFPB by Wall Street banks, Silicon Valley tech billionaires and their allies in Congress and the White House. They are trying to roll back protections for everyday Americans to line the billionaires’ pockets. They want to circumvent Congress to eliminate the CFPB by returning all CFPB funding to the Federal Reserve and illegally firing all staff. Congress created the CFPB and funded it through the Federal Reserve following the Great Recession in 2008. Congress needs to assert their power of the purse and stop the illegal elimination of the CFPB.

👉 Join Indivisible Chicago and the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) at Federal Plaza, 230 S Dearborn St. TODAY at 12pm to call for Congress to step up and protect the CFPB and vote NO on any budget proposal that does not require the Executive branch to maintain the CFPB.

ICA Action: Tell Reps to Keep Holding the Line!

On Tuesday night, nearly every House Republican supported a budget framework that threatens Medicaid and other essential programs to fund tax cuts for the wealthy. The sole no vote came from a member seeking even deeper cuts to hungry kids and struggling families.

This fight isn't over. That vote was just a vague "concept of a plan," allowing Republicans to dodge accountability for cutting health insurance. The real challenge lies ahead: crafting a bill to slash $2 trillion from the budget. This will inevitably mean cutting healthcare and vital services, angering constituents and jeopardizing lives.

While Democrats stood strong and voted NO on this harmful bill, a new challenge looms: the government shuts down on March 14 unless Congress passes a new spending bill. Republicans need Democratic votes, but instead of negotiating in good faith, they’re pushing a MAGA budget disaster.

👉 Now is the time to tell your reps: Democrats must continue to hold the line and demand a funding deal that protects essential programs and rights!

ICA Action: Stand up for Science 3/7

When the federal government supports scientific research through taxpayer funding, it fuels innovation, creates jobs, and sustains the world we live in. From purified water to the polio vaccine to the cell phone you might be reading this on, science has significantly impacted our lives in countless ways.

On Friday, March 7, join a grassroots group of students, professors, scientists, and concerned citizens, some of who have been directly affected by cuts to Federal funding, along with Indivisible Chicago as we rally at Federal Plaza in defense of science.

We’re also mobilizing because attacks on diversity, equity, inclusion, and access are attacks on science, and vice versa. Science is at its best when it includes everyone and when it stands to improve people’s lives.

👉Join the rally on Friday, March 7 at noon in Federal Plaza!
