Wednesday, November 30 - School Tax Credit Voucher Forum / Act Now for Pretrial Fairness

Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: School Tax Credit Voucher Forum 12/6

Join us to learn how the Illinois “Invest in Kids” voucher program funnels public tax money into private schools. Who wins with tax credit vouchers? And who loses? What can we do to put an end to the tax credit? To learn more, read this FAQ.

The so-called "Invest in Kids" tax credit voucher program is slated to end in 2023, but we expect a push to make it permanent in the next Illinois General Assembly session. For that reason, our forum on Dec. 6th will be a timely effort to activate our campaign against an extension. Cassie Creswell, Director of Illinois Families for Public Schools, will provide a powerful and informative presentation on the topic, and we hope to raise awareness and garner more participation in our campaign to end this destructive policy.

Join the virtual forum on Tuesday, Dec 6 at 7:00 pm.

Action 2: Act Now for Pretrial Fairness

In just a few short weeks, Illinois will implement the Pretrial Fairness Act, a law that will end money bond and ensure that no one is jailed while awaiting trial simply because they can’t afford to purchase their freedom. The Pretrial Fairness Act will improve community safety and make our pretrial system more fair, but some are attacking legislators who voted for the Pretrial Fairness Act and trying to intimidate them into rolling it back or repealing it before it goes into full effect!

Our voices together are most powerful when legislators hear directly from constituents. Use this simple tool to call your legislators and let them know you want them to stand strong against efforts to roll back or repeal the Pretrial Fairness Act! While calls might feel intimidating, the staff of these legislators will listen to your voice as a constituent, and it's the most valuable type of legislator contact you can do right now.

Together, we can protect this historic policy change that will expand pretrial freedom and justice throughout Illinois!
