Action 1: Donate or Volunteer to Support Migrants in Chicago
As of this week, more than 750 asylum seekers have arrived in Chicago from Texas, according to the city. Governor Abbot of Texas has been misleading migrants into boarding busses in an illegal, immeasurably cruel scheme to create a political point. Human beings are not political pawns.
The City of Chicago is stepping up to help the arriving migrants with finding shelter and the assistance they need to get on their feet. These are people who are legally seeking asylum in the US, and they deserve our compassion.
Here’s how you can help the asylum seekers:
Action 2: Underwood Texting Party 9/29
Join us for our second Indivisible texting party to re-elect Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) for her third term on Thursday, September 29 from 2:00-4:00. We backed her in 2018 when she flipped this seat from red to blue, and since then she has been making us proud and impressing her constituents.
But her district has been redrawn to include many voters who are not familiar with her accomplishments. And her opponent will be coming after her with all the dark money and name-calling he can muster. So sign up for this texting party and help us get the word out about Lauren to her IL-14 voters and encourage them to vote early! Training will be included at the start of the event, so both new and veteran 2020 texters are all welcome!

Action 3: WI Poll Watchers on 11/8
It’s time: WisDems are looking for poll observers for the November 8th Midterm Election. We need you back on our team as a poll observer, helping us protect voters in this crucial election.
We have 6 opportunities for Election Law Training — even if you worked with us earlier this year, every volunteer needs to attend training to ensure you are completely up-to-date on changes and your responsibilities as an observer. We need all the help we can get to expand our team and make sure as many polling places as possible are covered this fall.
I know you are already aware of the stakes of Wisconsin’s elections this year, but showing up for voters has truly never been more important. Democracy is on the line this fall: with Mandela Barnes, we have the chance to flip a Senate seat, and in re-electing Governor Evers, we have the opportunity to keep a staunch defender of voting rights in office for another four years.
We all have a part to play in protecting our democracy and advocating for voters, and as a poll observer, you will have an incredibly direct impact on the election. When Wisconsinites go to the polls this November, we need you there to make sure every eligible voter’s voice can be heard. Poll observers help guarantee the election goes smoothly, reporting any problems or instances of voter suppression to our team so we can address them immediately and ensure every single eligible vote is counted.
