Protect Survivors of Domestic Violence
We are asking everyone to call your Illinois state representatives and state senators and ask them to support Karina's Bill, a bill that protects survivors of domestic violence.
The bill does the following:
Requires firearm removal to occur during service of an emergency order of protection when granted by a judge
Closes a loophole by barring the transfer of firearms to family/friends and instead transfers firearms to law enforcement
Adds dating partners and ex-dating partners to the list of petitioners that can file a Firearms Restraining Order
Clarifies existing language to allow a judge to issue a warrant to allow for consistent firearm removal enforcement across the state
We expect the bill to move during the Veto Session in early November, so please make calls THIS WEEK and next week. If you only have one call in you, call your Senator, please!
While some of these Daily Actions come from our own work as Indivisible Chicago Alliance, others are from our many partners working to advance the progressive agenda. We invite you to join us in supporting their work. Postings from partners do not imply Indivisible Chicago Alliance endorsement of specific policies and positions.
