Action You Can Take Today

Action 1: Blue Beginning Happy Hour

We knocked doors, made calls, sent postcards and texts, flooded social media, and talked to friends and family till we were hoarse. Each of us contributed in our own ways and, together, Indivisibles rallied the voters of Chicago and Wisconsin to reject the politics of fear and embrace the promise of a new direction.

Thank you to all who joined in this incredible effort.

It’s not an easy road ahead of us. No big city in this country has so fully embraced the people-first path Brandon Johnson proposes. He’ll need our continued support as he pursues our shared goals of affordable housing, better schools, job training, equitable development,  a public health approach to safety, and all the planks of this progressive platform. And the new administration will need our voices to keep it accountable. So our work is certainly not finished, but the rewards will be rich and long-lasting for all our communities.

What’s next? Join us at the Hideout Wednesday, April 12 for the Blue Beginning Political Happy Hour as we discuss the new administration with progressive alders Matt Martin and Jeanette Taylor. Share the event on Facebook.

Action 2: Donate to Support a Progressive Tennessee

Can’t make it to Federal Plaza tonight? You can support progressive organizing in Tennessee by donating to these grassroots organizations:

The following two organizations are central funding sources for the myriad of groups doing effective community organizing in TN – and are a great way to make sure you’re devoting dollars to responding to the current crisis in the state. Because this is a political fight, 501c4 dollars are very much in need – but the 501c3 fund can also support organizations doing education and advocacy:

Three frontline organizations you can support directly:

  • TIRRC Votes is a 501(c)(4) advocacy organization focused on immigrant issues. They’ve done incredible work in voter registration and mobilization, door-knocking and advocacy since their founding in 2018.

  • The Equity Alliance is a 501(c)(3) “led by award-winning Black Women” who are in the front of the fight in community organizing in Nashville.

  • Memphis for All is a grassroots organizing group trying to mobilize voters and assist new candidates like Justin Pearson to gain power locally and at the state level.

Action 3: Offer public comment on Elected School Board

Senate Dems are holding hearings for public input on Chicago's elected school board. If you would like to make an in-person public comment, please fill out a witness slip below:

  •  April 12th, 4:00pm – 6:00pm, Copernicus Center, 5216 W. Lawrence Avenue, Chicago, IL 60630

  • April 13th, 4:00pm – 6:00pm, National Museum of Mexican Art, 1852 W. 19th Street, Chicago, IL 60608

  • April 17th, 6:00pm – 8:00pm, Virtual Hearing

From the ILGA:

If you would like to participate in any of the hearings as a witness to provide testimony, you may do so either in person at any of the four in person hearings or virtually via zoom at our virtual hearing . We just ask that you fill out a witness slip here and reply to this email with a notification of your intention to provide testimony. If you wish to simply watch and listen to the hearings, there will be seating available to the public at each venue. You do not need to register to just attend a hearing to watch and listen, only if you want to provide testimony.

Lastly, we would like to make you aware of our public portal that allows the public to draw and submit proposed district boundaries. The portal can be accessed here. You can either draw a community of interest on the portal or submit a district or full map that you have drawn on another system.
