Action 1: TONIGHT - Protest the Outrage in Tennessee
Chicago is joining the national outcry against Tennessee’s MAGA GOP-controlled House after they voted to unjustly expel two Black Representatives in retaliation for standing with students and their families demanding action to end gun violence.
Join us to speak out as GOP-controlled states continue to test this now-fragile democracy. The Tennessee action is the latest in a string of state decisions to disenfranchise voters who don’t agree with them and don’t look like them. And, the underlying debate that prompted it all: how to limit access to the assault weapons that are killing children and others on a near-daily basis.
Come to Federal Plaza TONIGHT at 5:30 p.m. to stand up for democracy and support Tennessee activists who are fighting for meaningful gun reform. Spread the word!
Action 2: Donate to Support a Progressive Tennessee
Can’t make it to Federal Plaza tonight? You can support progressive organizing in Tennessee by donating to these grassroots organizations:
The following two organizations are central funding sources for the myriad of groups doing effective community organizing in TN – and are a great way to make sure you’re devoting dollars to responding to the current crisis in the state. Because this is a political fight, 501c4 dollars are very much in need – but the 501c3 fund can also support organizations doing education and advocacy:
Three frontline organizations you can support directly:
TIRRC Votes is a 501(c)(4) advocacy organization focused on immigrant issues. They’ve done incredible work in voter registration and mobilization, door-knocking and advocacy since their founding in 2018.
The Equity Alliance is a 501(c)(3) “led by award-winning Black Women” who are in the front of the fight in community organizing in Nashville.
Memphis for All is a grassroots organizing group trying to mobilize voters and assist new candidates like Justin Pearson to gain power locally and at the state level.
While some of these Daily Actions come from our own work as Indivisible Chicago Alliance, others are from our many partners working to advance the progressive agenda. We invite you to join us in supporting their work. Postings from partners do not imply Indivisible Chicago Alliance endorsement of specific policies and positions.
