Action You Can Take Today

Let Your Alder & the Mayor Know Your Budget Priorities

Let Your Alder & the Mayor Know Your Budget Priorities

It’s Budget Season in Chicago! Mayor Brandon Johnson is hosting 3 Budget Round Tables as he gets ready to propose and pass his first budget. We need all the people we can to come out to these roundtables, and talk to your neighbors and community about canceling the Chicago ShotSpotter contract. The first round table was July 18, where a representative for SoundThinking (formerly known as ShotSpotter; owns and sells ShotSpotter technology) was present and talking to community about ShotSpotter in the budget (!!).

Even if registration says it is sold out, you can still show up! Registration is not required to attend!

The Stop ShotSpotter campaign has drafted some talking points to help support messaging on ShotSpotter, feel free to use these as you attend the town halls or in conversations with your neighbors. You can access these talking points when you fill out this form to let us know you'll be there.

Can’t make it to the town halls? That’s okay! You can still take action by emailing your alderperson. Let them know this budget season we want a budget that invests in people and does not exploit the finances of Black, brown, and poor Chicagoans!
