Wednesday, September 13 - No School Vouchers in IL / Police Accountability Rally Rescheduled
Action You Can Take Today
Action 1: Call on your state senator and rep to say no to school vouchers in Illinois
Action 2: Rescheduled for TOMORROW - Don't Let the FOP Undermine Police Accountability Rally on Thursday, September 14 at 9 a.m. at City Hall
Action 1: No School Vouchers in IL
Illinois' harmful K-12 school voucher program (aka "Invest in Kids") is on the cusp of sunsetting permanently as planned, but the Illinois General Assembly could very well yet act to revive it during Veto Session later this fall. There are just six weeks left to make the public case that vouchers fund discrimination, hurt children, violate the Establishment Clause, and will destroy our public school system if left to fester as a public policy.
Call both your state rep and state senator and say: I’m very worried that the Illinois Invest in Kids voucher program could be extended during Veto Session. Public dollars must go only to public schools. Where exactly does Sen/Rep X stand on this? Will they vote no on any extension of the program past the current sunset date?(If yes) Great! Can they issue a public statement affirming that position clearly?
(If no or equivocating) I will definitely be letting my neighbors know about their stance. The fate of our public schools in Illinois is at stake in this fight. We need elected officials to stand with us on the side of public schools that serve all kids.

Action 2: Police Accountability Rally Re-scheduled for TOMORROW
An arbitrator recently released a decision that Chicago Police officers facing discipline, regardless of the severity, should have the option to have that discipline heard in arbitration behind closed doors instead of going before the public Police Board. This is an attack by the Fraternal Order of Police on the system of accountability that the people have fought to create. Luckily, in order for this arbitrator's decision to go into effect, the City Council has to ratify the decision.
We are calling on all those who support the fight for justice and accountability to join us outside Chicago City Hall on Thursday, September 14th at 9 AM for a press conference and rally demanding the City Council refuse the ratification of this decision. If you're able, we ask you sign up for public comment for the meeting.
