Action 1: URGENT - Support Name Change Law Modernization
In the face of ongoing MAGA attacks on our communities, it’s crucial for Illinois to take a stand and protect those at risk. Join Equality Illinois in advocating for the passage of HB 5164, a vital bill that will enhance privacy and safeguard individuals—especially trans people and survivors of violence—from the distress of having to publicly disclose their name changes in a newspaper.
The vote on this bill could happen as soon as TOMORROW — Take action today! Encourage your state senator to vote YES on HB 5164. Your voice matters in the fight for equality and protection for all.

Action 2: Tell Biden to Support the ERA
Women in the United States still lack guaranteed equal rights, with dire consequences. The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) has been fully ratified since 2020 and just needs one action to be added to the Constitution.
The ERA is vital for protecting against rights rollbacks, empowering the judicial system to tackle sex discrimination, and advancing gender equality. Urge President Biden to instruct the US Archivist to certify and publish the ERA.
Here are five things you can do between now and the end of the year. Take the challenge and do all of them before President Biden’s term ends!

SAMPLE MESSAGE
I urge President Biden to instruct the US Archivist to certify the Equal Rights Amendment. The ERA has met all requirements for ratification. Women’s rights are under attack. The president has the authority to act and must do so with urgency.
