Action 1: TOMORROW - Indivisible Downtown Meeting
The Downtown Indivisible chapter meeting on Tuesday has a special guest: Kina Collins. An Indivisible Chicago-endorsed candidate for Congress, Kina is a lifelong activist and nationally recognized gun violence prevention and health care advocate, born and raised in Austin on the West Side of Chicago. As a national organizer for Medicare For All and founder of the Chicago Neighborhood Alliance, Kina built a track record of policy making, coalition building, and working with communities to improve public health and safety.
Join the meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, February 20 at 7pm at Necessary and Sufficient Coffee in Printers Row (728 S Dearborn St) to find out how to help her campaign in the last weeks before the election.
Action 2: TODAY - MI Voter Registration
In 2024, the path to the White House again runs through our backyard. Michigan and Wisconsin are both rated as toss-up states and their combined 25 Electoral votes are almost one-third of the total for the country’s most competitive states that will determine who wins in November.
As Indivisible Chicago prepares our planned activities this year to keep both states in the blue column and send Donald Trump packing, we have an immediate opportunity to help out in Michigan. Our friends at Statewide Indivisible Michigan (SWIM) are asking for our help registering likely Democratic voters who live where Michigan’s most competitive races will occur.
SWIM is working with the national grassroots voter registration group, Field Team 6, to prepare phone banks, text banks and postcard campaigns to get people registered. They are kicking off the effort with a pilot project in Southwest Michigan – the exact area where Indivisible Chicago will be door-knocking on behalf of our candidates later this year!
Registering voters likely to vote for our candidates is not only one of the effective ways to win elections, it is also extremely gratifying for those of us doing the work. People are genuinely grateful for the phone call, text, or postcard that lets them know where they need to go and what they need to do to register to vote.
So, come join us as we make calls starting TODAY, Monday, February 19, from 3:00-5:00pm, or next Monday, February 26. It’s fun to do this as a group! We’ll meet on Zoom to get the training we need to help get the folks we’re calling registered. At the end of the session, we’ll return to the Zoom room for a debrief and to share stories. Hope to see you there!
While some of these Daily Actions come from our own work as Indivisible Chicago Alliance, others are from our many partners working to advance the progressive agenda. We invite you to join us in supporting their work. Postings from partners do not imply Indivisible Chicago Alliance endorsement of specific policies and positions.
