Tuesday, February 4 – Three Things You Can Do to Stop Trump’s Illegal Power Grab
🚨🚨🚨 Rally TOMORROW to Stop Trump’s Power Grab 🚨🚨🚨
In the first two weeks of Trump’s presidency, Democrats have too often engaged in bi-partisanship, supporting his anti-immigrant bill and nominees. They've largely remained silent on his racist, homophobic, transphobic, and xenophobic Executive Orders.
Now, a significant power grab is underway. Trump has signed an Executive Order to shut down federal loans and grants, a power that belongs to Congress. Plus, Elon Musk has gained illegal access to the Treasury Department. This is a coup, and we need our Senators to act NOW.
We will deliver a letter demanding they block Trump’s nominees. While Indivisible Chicago members deliver the letter, we will protest outside to ensure our presence is felt. It’s time to get our elected Democrats’ attention and shut this down.
Tell Senators to Shut it Down!
We are demanding Senate Democrats use every procedural tool to slow the workings of the Senate including:
Opposing all nominees
Denying Unanimous Consent to slow Senate proceedings
Voting “No” on all Cloture
Forcing Quorum calls at every opportunity
👉 Today, we want you to call and email your Senators and tell them they need to vote NO on all of Trump’s remaining nominees and use all procedure power they have to slow the votes.
Tell Illinois AG Kwame Raoul to Stop Musk’s Data Breach
We need your urgent help to protect our sensitive information. Billionaire Elon Musk and his unvetted team have downloaded the Treasury Department database, resulting in the largest data breach in our country’s history. This breach puts our most private data—like Social Security numbers and bank account information—at significant risk.
We’re asking you to write to Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and urge him to file a lawsuit to stop this illegal data breach.
👉 Submit your letter here! Here’s a sample letter you can use:
To the Honorable AG Raoul:
Please take swift action to file a lawsuit to stop Elon Musk’s illegal data breach. By downloading onto private hard drives, he jeopardizes the most sensitive information about each of us, including Social Security numbers and bank account info for those collecting benefits from Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security. Additionally, his actions to shut down the popular free online tax filing system exemplify his usurpation of Congressional authority—without any official mandate. If you believe there’s basis for a class action suit, I happily volunteer to serve as a plaintiff.
