Action 1: TODAY - Write Letters to Voters on Thursday
Join Swing Left Chicago to meet local volunteers, learn about our strategy, and get started by writing letters to increase voter turnout in Illinois.
There’s so much at stake, from progress on fair elections and infrastructure to reproductive rights and climate change, and it will require an all-hands-on-deck effort to protect the Democratic majorities in Congress.
And you can make a difference! During this event, we'll get started with writing letters to voters with Vote Forward — a highly-effective, proven tactic to increase voter turnout that's also fun! We’ll have everything you need to write letters, just bring yourself (and maybe a friend).
Democrats can win in November, despite what the GOP wants us to believe. We can protect and expand our majorities in Congress and build up Democratic power in the states, both of which will help safeguard our democracy. Join us!
Write Letters to Voters with Swing Left Chicago TODAY, Thursday, April 28 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Beermiscuous (2812 N Lincoln Ave).

Action 2: Build Affordable Housing Now Rally on Saturday
The plan to provide 51 units of critically needed affordable housing at Western and Leland in the Lincoln Square neighborhood is in jeopardy. We fear if we lose this opportunity to build affordable housing, it will stay a surface parking lot.
The current proposal for 4715 N. Western Ave was produced after years of community meetings, in which hundreds of residents participated. The 47th Ward and Lincoln Square
community are ready to see this development move forward quickly, efficiently, and with our input at the forefront. An attractive five-story building with first-floor commercial
space would replace what is now a city-owned parking lot.
After winning coveted LIHTC funding, the city is retracting its commitment to this project. The Departments of Planning and Development and Housing say that the number of parking spaces proposed and the access point for that parking is unacceptable, though they are not working with the developer to determine a compromise.
For more than two years, Alderman Matt Martin undertook the challenge to reach a compromise between affordable housing advocates and the local business community. In April 2021, The Community Builders and Alderman Martin debuted the current development proposal, which preserves parking for the nearby business district while adding 51 affordable housing units and ground-level commercial spaces. This project is widely supported by Lincoln Square residents and the business community, all of whom recognize that a diverse community is a strong community.
Lincoln Square has lost over 11% of its affordable housing in the past five years, a trend that will escalate if we do not act now. Join us for our rally on Saturday, April 30 at noon! We’ll be gathering at the SE Corner of Leland and Western Ave.
