Action 2: Tell Dick Durbin to Do Better
Federal court vacancies are piling up due to an archaic Senate rule called the "blue slip." Meanwhile, new evidence of SCOTUS corruption keeps emerging. The nation is turning its eyes to Illinois, because we are in the unique position as Senator Dick Durbin's constituents to apply friendly but firm pressure on him to do more in his dual roles as Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and Democratic Whip.
As his constituents, we can influence Senator Durbin to take action on Supreme Court accountability, court reforms, and judicial appointments. Our goal is to establish a working relationship with Senator Durbin similar to the relationship that Indivisibles in New York state have with Senator Schumer.
With our collective statewide voice, we are calling upon Senator Durbin to:
Get more aggressive on holding Clarence Thomas & his colleagues accountable for corruption
Endorse court reforms, such as a Supreme Court ethics bill and Supreme Court expansion
Ditch the blue slip rule
First, text DO BETTER DURBIN to 59798 to hear an update from Meagan Hatcher-Mays, Indivisible Director of Democracy Policy, on SCOTUS accountability, and get patched through to Durbin’s office to tell him:
Hold Supreme Court Justices like Clarence Thomas accountable for corruption, including issuing subpoenas if necessary.
We deserve a court that we can believe in, not one under the influence of MAGA billionaires.
Next, submit this digital commitment to join future actions, including signing onto Indivisible's upcoming statewide letter to Durbin requesting:
action on key judiciary issues
a townhall to discuss these issues with us
regular meetings between his office and our statewide leadership team
