Partner Action: Resist Escalation of ICE Raids

With the passage of H.R. 1, Republicans have allocated $171 billion to boost mass deportation efforts, including $45 billion for detention centers and $30 billion for new ICE officers. ICE’s funding now surpasses the combined budgets of previous administrations.

While some provisions don’t take effect until 2026, this increase is immediate, leading to more ICE raids nationwide—terrorizing residents and fueling chaos. It also funds inhumane detention facilities, like “Alligator Alcatraz” in Florida, and causes economic harm as essential workers hide out of fear. Despite the funding boost, ICE still relies on local law enforcement, with $14 billion allocated for partnerships.

👉  Congress and state governments must oppose these actions and protect communities from this assault on rights and safety.

Script: Hello, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].

[IF CALLING GOVERNOR]: I’m calling to urge Governor Pritzker to oppose the Trump administration’s attacks on immigrants and refuse to assist with any federal ICE raids and detentions. ICE raids are targeting essential workers, detaining innocent people without cause or due process, and terrorizing our communities. Governor Pritzker must protect us from this push towards an authoritarian police state.

[IF CALLING HOUSE/SENATE]: I’m calling to urge [REP/SEN NAME] to oppose the Trump administration’s attacks on immigrants and conduct public oversight investigations into the conduct of ICE agents and conditions of detention facilities. ICE raids are terrorizing communities across the country, violating due process rights, and subjecting innocent people to extremely inhumane treatment. I expect [REP/SEN NAME] to hold this administration accountable for their authoritarian tactics.

ICA Action: Good Trouble Lives On - John Lewis Day of Action 7/17

Our rights are under attack. Our democracy is under siege. We’ve been here before, and we know what to do.

On July 17, we honor the anniversary of the passing of civil rights hero John Lewis, not with ceremonies, but with action. Across the country, we will take to the streets, courthouses, and community spaces to carry forward his fight for justice, voting rights, and dignity for all.

This is more than a protest, it’s a moral reckoning. A continuation of the movement Lewis helped lead, and a new front in the struggle for freedom.

👉 Join us for Good Trouble Lives On: John Lewis Day of Action on Thursday, July 17 at 5:30 p.m. at Daley Plaza.

While some of these Daily Actions come from our own work as Indivisible Chicago Alliance, others are from our many partners working to advance the progressive agenda. We invite you to join us in supporting their work. Postings from partners do not imply Indivisible Chicago Alliance endorsement of specific policies and positions.
