Partner Action: Protect Funding and Access to Gender-Affirming Care

The fight isn't over. A dangerous bill, H.R. 3492, has passed the House and threatens the health and rights of many. It aims to criminalize the provision of essential healthcare to trans youth, denying them medically necessary care and punishing providers and parents with fines or imprisonment.

This bill is a discriminatory attempt to erase safe, evidence-based transition-related care for trans individuals while allowing non-consensual surgeries on intersex infants. For over 40 years, such care has been aligned with medical best practices and shown to improve mental health outcomes.

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s bill is a misguided attack on LGBTQI+ communities and broader healthcare access. Senators must vote NO to protect trans youth, their families, and healthcare providers.

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from Chicago. I’m calling to urge Senator [NAME] to oppose the House-passed bills H.R. 3492, the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, and H.R. 498, the Do No Harm in Medicaid Act. These bills will unnecessarily ban, and even criminalize, health care for transgender Americans. Congress should be working to increase access and lower costs for all Americans, not attack a vulnerable population and block them from life-saving care.

Partner Action: Expand the Pretrial Success Grant Program

Last year, the Illinois legislature funded the creation of the Pretrial Success Grant Program. Rolled out as a pilot program in five counties, the Pretrial Success Grant Program is bolstering the success of people who are released pretrial, thanks to the Pretrial Fairness Act, by expanding access to vital services like transportation and child care so they can attend court and providing resources for mental health, substance use disorder and other needs.

Since this program launched, the Trump administration has taken significant steps to dismantle the social safety net, making the Pretrial Success Grant Program more important than ever. By addressing the underlying challenge that may have brought people into contact with the criminal legal system in the first place, the Pretrial Success Grant Program can improve community safety and ensure people have the resources they need to succeed both during the court process and after their case concludes.

👉Join us in calling on Governor Pritzker and the Illinois legislature to expand the Pretrial Success Grant Program so all of our communities can thrive.
