ICA Action: Michigan Midterms Focus 6/22

As we go all out to win back control of Congress in November, one of the country's most important Midterm battlegrounds is right next door in Southwest Michigan. Join us as we hear directly from Michigan candidates on what's at stake:

  • beat back MAGA gerrymandering and flip a Congressional seat that will be key to winning back the House

  • retain an open Senate seat that will determine control of the U.S. Senate

  • win key statewide offices that ensure fair elections in this swing state

Invited speakers include State Rep. Joey Andrews and U.S. Congressional candidate Sean McCann.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Join Michigan Midterms Focus on Monday, June 22 at 6 p.m. at Sulzer Regional Library (4455 N Lincoln Ave)

Community Action: Eyes on SCOTUS Call 6/25

  • June is a turning point at the Supreme Court. In the coming weeks, the Supreme Court is expected to issue major decisions that could affect birthright citizenship, voting rights, gender justice, and other fundamental freedoms. These rulings will undoubtedly shape people's lives and the legal landscape across the countryโ€”but they are not the end of the story.

As long as there has been a Supreme Court there have been people who have been organizing to respond, defend rights, and build power beyond the courtroom. That organizing continues today.

Join the ACLU for the June People Power Action Call: Eyes on SCOTUS to understand what we're watching for and how people across the country are preparing to respond and take action together.

    On this call, you'll:

    • Get updates on key Supreme Court cases this term

    • Hear how communities organized after Dobbs to protect reproductive freedom

    • Plug into volunteer teams building coordinated response power nationwide

๐Ÿ‘‰ Join ACLU June People Power Action Call: Eyes on SCOTUS on Thursday, June 25th at 7 p.m. CT.

Community Action: Protect Lake Michigan

Enbridge needs a permit to discharge wastewater into Lake Michigan, in order to build its proposed Line 5 tunnel in the Straits of Mackinac. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is now taking public comments.

If granted, the permit would allow Enbridge to:

  • Dump billions of gallons of wastewater (9 Olympic-sized swimming pools, every day)

  • Take up to nearly 2 million gallons per day from Lake Michigan

  • Discharge chemical additives, chlorides, solids, and pollutants from heavy machinery (like metals, oils, and grease) into Lake Michigan

๐Ÿ‘‰ Submit your comments to EGLE by June 30, and tell them to say NO to the Enbridge discharging into Lake Michigan.
