Partner Action: Demand the Unfreezing of FEMA Funds and Restore BRIC
In direct violation of court orders, the Trump administration has frozen FEMA disaster funds to at least 19 states since early February—punishing states with “sanctuary cities” for refusing to comply with anti-immigrant policies. A federal judge overseeing the case ruled that FEMA leadership appears to be enforcing Trump’s executive order to cut off aid to these states.
Now, the administration has taken it a step further by canceling the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program. BRIC helps local communities prepare for future disasters through projects that strengthen infrastructure and boost resilience—many of which are already underway and now risk being defunded midstream.
This is a dangerous, authoritarian move. Withholding disaster funds for political reasons puts lives at risk—especially for communities already affected by wildfires, floods, and extreme weather events. And without BRIC, states lose one of the only federal programs aimed at disaster prevention.

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP]. I'm calling to urge [REP/SEN NAME] to take immediate steps to ensure that FEMA funds previously appropriated by Congress are disbursed to all states without delay and that the BRIC program is fully reinstated. It is unacceptable that funds for at least 19 states have been withheld since early February, despite court orders. Withholding FEMA funds and cancelling BRIC leaves Americans in harm's way.

Partner Action: Join a Virtual Event with Heather Cox Richardson This Week!
Historian and political writer Heather Cox Richardson has spent years helping Americans make sense of our democracy—how it was built, how it’s been tested, and how authoritarian movements rise.
Today, she continues to sound the alarm on Project 2025, a coordinated plan by Trump and his allies to dismantle democratic institutions and consolidate power. This agenda is no longer hypothetical—it’s already shaping policy and preparing the groundwork for the years ahead.
Join two virtual events this week where Heather Cox Richardson is helping lead the charge:
👉 TODAY join Richardson and Rep. Jasmine Crockett to discuss the Reality of Project 2025 from 7:00pm-8:00pm. Hosted by Red, Wine, & Blue, learn how Project 2025 is already being implemented—and get a first look at a new tracking tool showing how it’s impacting communities.
👉 Then on Wednesday, April 16, Richardson joins Rep. Jamie Raskin and MA Attorney General Andrea Campbell for No Kings – Then or Now: Fighting on All Fronts. Hosted by Volunteer Blue and 40+ partner organizations, this event will focus on what we can do—together—to stop this authoritarian agenda in its tracks.

ICA & Partner Action: Phone Banks This Week to Tell House Republicans to Stop the Cuts!
At the end of February, the GOP-controlled House voted for a Budget Resolution that proposes cutting $880 billion, primarily targeting Medicaid, which provides healthcare to over 72 million Americans. In Illinois, this affects nearly half our children, two-thirds of seniors in nursing homes, and 40% of all pregnancies.
The MAGA agenda seeks to slash these essential services, like Medicaid and SNAP, to fund tax giveaways for the ultra-wealthy, despite the failure of "trickle-down" economics.
This budget isn’t finalized yet! We're making calls to voters in Republican districts and asking them to reach out to their Members of Congress to demand: no cuts for working families and no more tax cuts for billionaires.
👉 Join our Indivisible phone bank to help spread the word every Wednesday in April. We’re calling constituents in Congressman Bost’s District IL-12. We’ll provide facts on Medicaid and train you on phone banking.
👉 Join the Working Families Party for phone banks on April 15, 17, and 21. They will provide a quick training and a script—you just need a phone, a laptop, and the will to make an impact.
