Partner Action: Protect the CDC's HIV Prevention Division

Amid broad threats to slash Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) staffing, the Trump administration is reportedly considering slashing funding to the CDC’s HIV Prevention Division or eliminating the division altogether and delegating HIV prevention work to Health and Human Services (HHS) instead.

The CDC’s HIV Prevention Division monitors HIV infection rates and leads crucial HIV testing and prevention efforts. Their efforts have been highly effective, with new HIV infections decreasing by 12% from 2018 to 2022.

This move would threaten decades of progress and put countless lives at risk by dismantling critical prevention efforts, PrEP access, and other life-saving services. It undermines bipartisan HIV policy, including Trump’s own Ending the HIV Epidemic Initiative, and leaves states struggling to fill the gap.

Here are the facts:

  • Prevention saves lives and money. A lifetime of HIV care costs over $500,000.

  • CDC-funded prevention programs will be lost or pushed to states, which likely can’t afford to replace them.

  • If we don’t act, HIV rates will rise, preventable illnesses will increase, and taxpayers will bear the cost.

👉 Contact your representatives today to demand they stop the dismantling of the CDC’s Division of HIV Prevention:

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP]. I'm calling to urge [REP/SEN NAME] strongly oppose any cuts to the CDC's HIV Prevention Division. The CDC's HIV prevention work saves both lives and taxpayer dollars by stopping the spread of HIV.

ICA & Partner Action: Hands Off Medicaid Phone Bank

The GOP-controlled Congress has voted on a budget to cut $880 billion, threatening Medicaid for over 72 million Americans. In Illinois, this impacts nearly half our children, two-thirds of seniors in nursing homes, and 40% of pregnancies.

These cuts are aimed at funding tax giveaways to the ultra-wealthy, with no evidence of “trickle-down” benefits. It's going to take every one of us to fight back.

Join Protect Our Care Illinois and Indivisible TOMORROW, Friday March 21, from 12:00 - 1:00pm, for a phonebank to engage key communities. We'll be calling constituents in key Illinois districts and patching them through to their Representatives' offices.

👉 Register here for the Hands Off Medicare Phone Bank TOMORROW!

No experience necessary -- we'll help you get started with a quick tutorial at the beginning. All you need is a PC with reliable internet connection.

Partner Action: DOGE Privacy Act Requests

U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin is encouraging all U.S. citizens to join him in filing formal demands for access to their personal data obtained by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and unelected billionaire Elon Musk.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia has issued an injunction commanding DOGE to comply with citizen requests under the Freedom of Information Act. This law encompasses the Federal Privacy Act of 1974, which entitles any citizen to access personal information held in any U.S. government records system.

Citizens need only fill out the form and mail it in to DOGE. This newly recognized federal agency, which has been systematically accessing government computer data systems, now has an obligation to respond to specific information demands from any of the 340 million U.S. citizens who exercise their legal right to defend their privacy and establish the security of their private information.

👉 Fill out this Privacy Act Request and mail it to DOGE today!

More information can be found on Representative Raskin's website here.
