Monday, April 28 - No School Vouchers / Protect Head Start / Beyond 100 Days, The Path Forward

Partner Action: No School Voucher Phone Bank and Email

Congress is considering a $10 billion/year national voucher program, threatening public education. This could divert funds to private, often discriminatory schools, undermining our public schools, which serve 90% of Illinois kids.

πŸ‘‰ Join us for a Virtual Phone Bank TODAY, Monday, April 28th at 6:00 PM CT to stop federal school vouchers.

πŸ‘‰ And email your representatives to tell them: No vouchers in Illinois!

Partner Action: Protect Head Start and Early Childhood Education

High-quality early childhood education is vital for healthy child development and has long-term benefits, including reduced teen pregnancy rates and higher wages. Programs like Head Start, which benefits nearly 800,000 low-income children, provide a crucial social safety net, offering educational opportunities and essential services like food assistance.

However, the Trump administration has proposed eliminating federal funding for Head Start and cutting state preschool funding. This could severely impact the children, families, and communities relying on these services. Although this budget guidance is not yet law, it’s crucial to advocate for early childhood education

πŸ‘‰ Sign this petition from NHSA to show your support.

πŸ‘‰ Then call on Congress to reject this agenda and ensure access to quality education and childcare for all young children.

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME], and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP]. I'm calling to urge [REP/SEN NAME] to strenuously oppose any budget cuts to Head Start and other early childhood education programs. These programs have clear long-term health and economic benefits, and there is no better investment than the wellbeing and education of our children.

πŸ‘‰ Join us for a virtual community event, "Beyond 100 Days: The Path Forward," on April 30 at 7:00 PM CT to discuss lessons learned and actions we can take together to strengthen our democracy. Get involved; democracy needs you!
