Tuesday, March 11 - Rally to Release Activist Mahmoud Khalil / Tell Dems to HOLD THE LINE! / Witness Slip Roundup
Partner Action: TODAY - Protest to Release Activist Mahmoud Khalil
On March 8, DHS agents abducted Mahmoud Khalil, a U.S. permanent resident and student activist for Palestinian rights, from his New York apartment. Mahmoud was targeted for his political speech and activism in support of Palestinian freedom and for an end to the Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.
Mahmoud is currently being held in an ICE facility, reportedly already moved out of New York, and could face imminent deportation. His wife, a U.S. citizen, is eight months pregnant.
These are the actions of a fascist government, and we must fiercely resist and speak out, and generate overwhelming public outrage and pressure to ensure Mahmoud's release and to demand that elected officials and universities start protecting students from the reach of the Trump regime.
π Join us to protest for Mahmoud's release TODAY at 4:30 p.m. at Federal Plaza (230 S Dearborn Ave).

Partner Action: Tell Reps AND Senators to Hold the Line!
The government will shut down on March 14 unless Congress passes a new spending bill. Republicans, needing Democratic votes, are pushing a MAGA continuing resolution (CR) that proposes extreme cuts, threatening Social Security, housing, food security, and veterans' benefits. This is not a βcleanβ CR; itβs a slush fund that increases Trump and Elon Musk's power over federal spending.
Democrats must not support this CR. Instead, they should leverage their position to demand a bill that rejects extreme cuts and protects abortion rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and immigrant communities.
Until Republicans agree, Democrats should only back a clean, two-week CR to keep the government open without enabling a Trump-Musk power grab. This is not business as usual.
House Democrats must utilize all procedural tools to resist the Trump agenda, hold accountability hearings, and subpoena Musk to ensure Republicans defend their actions publicly.

Senate Democrats must use every procedural tool (from blanket holds on nominees to blocking unanimous consent and weaponizing quorum calls) available to fight back and delay and defy the Trump agenda.

Partner Action: Weekly Witness Slips
The Illinois General Assembly is back in Session, and nowβs the time to make your voice heard!
A Witness Slip is a person or group's position on a particular bill. Filling out a witness slip is a great way to let legislators know whether you support or oppose a bill.
Witness slips are read during a committee hearing and help inform legislators as to where people stand, allowing informed decisions when voting. Witness slips are a quick way to make your voice heard in state government.
π Fill out these witness slips as PROPONENT to support legislation that addresses violence against women, combats discrimination, increases voting accessibility, encourages representation, advances health equity, protects children, and supports survivors. Even if you have submitted a witness slip for a particular bill in a previous committee hearing, you still need to submit a new witness slip for this upcoming hearing.
Not sure how to fill out a witness slip? Check the link above for instructions!
