Tuesday, November 4 - No Cuts to Chicago Public Library / Weekly Know Your Rights Training / Indivisible Downtown Meeting 11/10

Partner Action: No Quiet Layoffs or Cuts to Chicago Public Library

Chicago faces a $1 billion budget deficit by 2026 due to federal funding cuts, and City Council is considering tough choices. The Mayor's proposed budget includes new revenue sources but also halves the library’s book budget and plans “quiet layoffs” of 89 staff positions. Last year, 52 staff were cut, and with these new layoffs, staffing could drop by 141 positions since 2024. These cuts would weaken library services when we need them most—supporting literacy, jobs, social services, and community engagement.

Say NO to layoffs and reduced budgets. Chicago deserves a world-class library—help us keep it strong.

👉 Please write to your Alderperson, the Mayor’s Office, and Library Commissioner Brown.
