Community Action: Support Medicare for All

In 2023, healthcare costs constituted nearly 18% of the United States’ gross domestic product. Despite spending far more on healthcare than any of our economic peers, the US has worse health outcomes. High healthcare costs not only divert resources from sectors like education and infrastructure, they also force thousands of people to delay or forgo necessary care; and health care expenditures only continue to rise.

The Medicare for All Act, S. 1506 / H.R. 3069, would replace our patchwork system of private and public insurers with a single public payer by expanding Medicare access to all Americans. Medicare would cover essential healthcare, with private insurers covering elective procedures like plastic surgery. The bill would require a significant tax hike, with proposals that focus on the wealthiest Americans and corporations, but major reductions in healthcare spending would outweigh tax increases.

Individuals would pay dramatically lower premiums and would not pay copays or deductibles at all. Indeed, studies have concluded a universal, single-payer healthcare system could save up to 114,000 lives and more than $1 trillion annually by eliminating administrative costs and giving the government more leverage to negotiate cheaper drug prices.

Script: I'm calling to urge [NAME] to support H.R. 3069, the Medicare for All Act of 2025. Shifting to a universal healthcare system would save billions of dollars while giving every American the chance to get the care they need to live healthy, productive lives.

Community Action: Microplastics Public Comment

Food & Water Action is calling for public comments to urge the EPA to start testing drinking water for microplastics under its next monitoring rule (UCMR 6). Microplastics in our tap water are a serious health issue, and everyone deserves to know what they’re actually drinking.

Since the EPA only updates these testing rules once every five years, if we don't get microplastics included now, we'll have to wait years for any real answers or action.

To help make this happen, please submit your comment to the EPA by 11:59 PM ET on August 31, 2026

👉 Get the public comment link and a suggested script here.
