Community Action: No Briefcam in Chicago
The Cook County Sheriff's Office is quietly trying to get the Cook County Board of Commissioners approve the purchase of Briefcam. Briefcam is video surveillance software powered by artificial intelligence. The technology uses facial recognition to purportedly identify people observed, document their activity, and flag suspected criminal activity. But due to privacy concerns and false positives which led to civil rights abuses, Briefcam has been banned by the French Supreme Court.
Sherriff Dart wants $2 million for a the Briefcam software that uses AI to monitor the jail’s cameras for drug use and nearly $1 million for more Flock license plate readers.
👉 Call your County Commissioner to oppose this effort!
Suggested script: I am calling to ask you to vote against the sheriff's proposal to contract with Briefcam for AI technology in the jail for the reason laid out in the letter that Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice sent to the board. I don't think that the board should allow this technology to be used in the jail when we are learning more about the dangers of AI with each passing day.

ICA Chapter Action: Indivisible Chicago Postcard Party 6/2 & 6/16
On June 2nd and June 16th at 6 PM, Indivisible Lincoln Square be coming together to save democracy by writing postcards to voters in Michigan to get out the vote in the November election. We will provide the postcards, the addresses, and the script. You provide the stamps for the postcards you write or donate!
Why write postcards to Michigan? This is a state race, but one with national implications. We will be reminding voters how important it is to vote in this election. In Michigan the Senate, Governor, Secretary of State, and Attorney General. are up for election in the midterms. These need to remain in the hands of Democrats to protect our democracy!
👉 Join the Postcard Parties on June 2 and 16 at Wild Goose Bar & Grill (4600 N Lincoln Ave)
