ICA Action: Postcards to Swing States

Indivisible Chicago Alliance has postcards from Postcards to Swing States for you to pick up and write at your convenience!

The postcards are to Michigan voters urging them to vote in the Nov 3rd general election. Wins in MIchigan are crucial to fight against MAGA. Several federal and state seats will be decided:

  • An open seat race for U.S. Senate rated a toss-up that we must retain if we’re going to flip the Senate

  • Open seat races for the three statewide offices - Governor, Secretary of State, and Attorney General - that will oversee Michigan’s election results in 2028

  • Races that will determine control of Michigan’s state legislature

Should you want to hold a postcard party with your chapter, friends or family, or want to write postcards on your own, please contact Pat Graham at pat@indivisiblechicago.com and she will help you with the details. ICA provides the postcards, address list and script. Writers provide the stamps for their written postcards and mail on Oct 14th.

👉 We will start making postcards available for pick up at locations in Lakeview and Lincoln Square. Contact pat@indivisiblechicago.com for details along with the number of postcards you want!

P.S. stay tuned for ICA future postcard parties via Mobilize

Community Action: Witness Slip Roundup

The Illinois General Assembly is back in Session, and now’s the time to make your voice heard! A Witness Slip is a person or group's position on a particular bill. Filling out a witness slip is a great way to let legislators know whether you support or oppose a bill.

Witness slips are read during a committee hearing and help inform legislators as to where people stand, allowing informed decisions when voting. Witness slips are a quick way to make your voice heard in state government.

👉 Fill out these witness slips as PROPONENT to support legislation that modernizes survivor protections for the digital age, expands access to menopause care, safeguards personal health autonomy, invests in preventative healthcare services, and ensures dignity and equity for all workers.

Not sure how to fill out a witness slip? Check the link above for instructions!

Community Action: Support Tax Justice in IL

Right now, Illinoisians suffer under the 8th most unequal tax system in the nation. The top 1% is hoarding billions that should be funding vital programs in Illinois. Citizen Action Illinois joins the Illinois Revenue Alliance to help fight for tax justice. To ensure our communities receive the vital funding they need, the Illinois Revenue Alliance is championing four critical bills to benefit all Illinoisians:

  • Digital Ad Tax (SB 3353/HB 4894) ($1.1 Billion estimated revenue)-Impose a 10% tax on digital advertising revenue on corporations that make over $150 million from digital ads.

  • Worldwide Combined Reporting (SB 3486/HB 5318) ($1.2 billion estimated revenue)-This would require multinational corporations to include the income of their foreign subsidiaries when calculating Illinois’ share of their profits.

  • Billionaire Wealth Tax (SB 3376/HB 5215) ($916 million estimated revenue)-Impose a “mark-to-market” wealth tax, which would apply Illinois’ personal income tax (4.95%) to the appreciation of billionaires’ assets.

  • State decoupling from Trump tax bill and closing corporate tax loopholes (SB 3796/HB 5125) ($700 million estimated revenue)-Fixes corporate tax rules that allow corporations to avoid some taxes as a direct response to Trump's tax giveaways in H.R. 1.
