Friday, September 26 - North Side People's Budget Townhall Sunday / Keep Plastic Foam Out of Lake Michigan / Rush Hour Resistance 10/3

Partner Action: North Side People's Budget Townhall with Alderpeople Sunday

Join us for the North Side People's Budget Townhall to discuss how to increase City investment in youth programs and mental health.

Invited Alderpeople: Hadden (49th Ward), Vasquez (40th Ward), Martin (47th Ward), Clay (46th Ward), Manaa-Hoppenworth (48th Ward), Lawson (44th Ward), Knudsen (43th Ward), Silverstein (50th Ward).

We need more investment in youth jobs and programs, mental health services, and affordable housing in the upcoming City Budget. The Big Ugly Bill has cut healthcare, snap, education funding and is paying for it by giving the Billionaires a tax break. We will discuss proposals to tax the rich corporations and Billionaires, redirect funds from police vacancies, and how we can fight to win these.

👉 Join the event on Sunday, September 28, 3 – 5pm at Epiphany United Church of Christ (2008 W Bradley Pl).

Partner Action: Keep Plastic Foam Out of Lake Michigan

Plastic pollution is a serious threat to Lake Michigan, our health, and our environment.

Plastic never really goes away. Instead, it breaks up into tiny pieces called “microplastics.” Researchers have found microplastics in the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe.

Polystyrene foam, more commonly known as Styrofoam, is nearly impossible to recycle. It easily breaks down into toxic microplastic particles in the environment.

The Illinois Senate has passed a bill that would reduce plastic pollution at the source by phasing out single-use foam food containers.

👉 Tell your Illinois House Representative to vote “yes” and keep plastic out of Lake Michigan and our drinking water.
