Partner Action: Oppose Project 2025 Author E.J. Antoni for BLS Commissioner
Trump has nominated E.J. Antoni, a Heritage Foundation member and Project 2025 contributor, to be the new Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), following the firing of Erika McEntarfer. The BLS provides crucial data on employment, inflation, and the economy, which has been regarded as the gold standard globally. However, Antoni has questioned the legitimacy of the BLS, even calling for McEntarfer’s firing on Steve Bannon’s podcast.
Economists criticize Antoni as unqualified, citing his misunderstandings of basic economic theories and his recent proposal to suspend the monthly jobs report. Many worry his appointment would distort data, downplay inflation, raise taxes, and undermine Social Security, which the BLS oversees.
