Thursday, August 28 - Protest to Close the Broadview ICE Facility 8/31 / Indivisible Greater West Loop Launch Event 9/11 / Durbin: Don't Cave on the Budget Again
Partner Action: Protest to Close the Broadview ICE Facility 8/31
Join the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression to build our campaign to close the Broadview ICE facility, which is being used illegally as a de facto detention center. The Broadview ICE Staging Facility is meant to hold detained immigrants for up to twelve hours. Since June, there have been reported and confirmed cases of detainees held in the facility for far longer, some for more than a week.
The facility was not designed to house detainees for even a night; it does not have beds or showers. ICE detention standards require three hot meals a day to be provided to detainees; at Broadview, detainees report receiving one meal. That ain't right!
👉 Join the protest on Sunday, August 31 at 12:00pm at the Broadview ICE Facility (1930 Beach St, Broadview IL)

Tell Durbin: Don't Cave on the Budget (Again)
Federal government funding runs out on September 30 -- setting up a massive monthlong sprint to pass a budget and avert a government shutdown. This fight is different from when we tried to stop Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, which Republicans pushed through using reconciliation to bypass the filibuster and implement dangerous policies like gutting Medicaid and SNAP. Now, Democrats hold the key, needing GOP votes only to get a bill to Trump’s desk. A united front can block extreme MAGA policies and undo some of Trump’s damage.
However, Democrats have a history of capitulating. During the last shutdown deadline, Democrats—including our Senator Dick Durbin—surrendered, allowing Republicans to get nearly everything they wanted. Now, Republicans expect Democrats to fold again and are pushing a risky budget that could cut healthcare, defund schools, fund ICE, and increase Trump’s unchecked power.
👉 Call Senator Durbin now and demand he stand firm, not surrender to MAGA brinkmanship.
