Tuesday, April 26 - Illinois Standing With Queer & Trans Communities / Write Letters to Voters

Actions You Can Take Today

Action 1: TOMORROW - Illinois Standing With Queer & Trans Communities

These past few months have been extremely difficult for the LGBTQ+ community across the country. Florida enacted the “don’t say gay” bill and the Texas governor demanded that parents and medical providers of trans youth be investigated for child abuse. While these have been the cases that have received the most attention, there has been a wave of more than 240 anti-queer and anti-trans bills filed across the country as well as anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, discrimination, and attacks.

In light of this snowball of issues targeting our LGBTQ+ community, our organizations partnered for a rally to support trans and queer communities on March 28 at Federal Plaza in Chicago. Unfortunately, the rally was hijacked by aggressive disruptors. For the safety of our community, we had to cancel the action to protect.

Our community refuses to be silenced or intimidated so we will reclaim our space and move forward with our action and press conference. Please join us TOMORROW, Wednesday, April 27 at 5:30 p.m. in Chicago Federal Plaza and stand against bigotry and hate in Illinois.

Action 2: Write Letters to Voters on Thursday

Join Swing Left Chicago to meet local volunteers, learn about our strategy, and get started by writing letters to increase voter turnout in Illinois.

There’s so much at stake, from progress on fair elections and infrastructure to reproductive rights and climate change, and it will require an all-hands-on-deck effort to protect the Democratic majorities in Congress.

And you can make a difference! During this event, we'll get started with writing letters to voters with Vote Forward — a highly-effective, proven tactic to increase voter turnout that's also fun! We’ll have everything you need to write letters, just bring yourself (and maybe a friend).

Democrats can win in November, despite what the GOP wants us to believe. We can protect and expand our majorities in Congress and build up Democratic power in the states, both of which will help safeguard our democracy. Join us!

Write Letters to Voters with Swing Left Chicago on Thursday, April 28 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Beermiscuous (2812 N Lincoln Ave).
