Action 1: Tell Senator Durbin to Act on Biden’s SCOTUS Reforms
The Supreme Court is out of balance, controlled by extremist and corrupt MAGA justices. Some justices have accepted lavish gifts from right-wing billionaires and then ruled in favor of these donors’ issues. Justices with ties to the January 6 insurrection have refused to recuse themselves in cases involving former President Trump and Jan. 6 defendants.
The most recent outrage was the Court’s long-delayed immunity ruling, which has effectively interfered in the upcoming election by preventing Trump from being held accountable before November.
In response to this crisis on the Supreme Court, President Biden issued a statement calling for three SCOTUS reforms:
A constitutional amendment called the No One Is Above the Law Amendment. It would make clear that there is no immunity for crimes a former president committed while in office.
Term limits for Supreme Court Justices.
A binding code of conduct for the Supreme Court.
Our Illinois senator, Dick Durbin, is the powerful chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Senator Durbin has advocated for the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act (the SCERT Act, pronounced “skirt”) but has otherwise been reluctant to take bold action to reform the Court.
As Senator Durbin’s Illinois constituents, we’re in a unique position to pressure this powerful leader. Call Senator Durbin’s office and thank him for advocating for the SCERT Act but call on him to implement all of President Biden’s proposed reforms. These three reforms represent an important first step to comprehensive Supreme Court reform.

I ask Senator Durbin to continue to advocate for the SCERT [“skirt”] Act and to take action on President Biden’s other two reforms: term limits and the No One Is Above the Law amendment. These reforms are not comprehensive, but they are an important start. Tell Senator Durbin to take action now to implement President Biden’s Supreme Court reforms!

Come and join Indivisible Chicago knocking doors in the critical swing state of Wisconsin on Saturday, August 10 as we work to maintain the Midwest Blue Wall and defeat Trump. The difference between the outcome of the presidential race in Wisconsin from 2016 and 2020 was 2-3 votes per ward. Our work may be the deciding difference. We will be supporting Senator Tammy Baldwin and the folks running for Wisconsin State Senate and Assembly as well as a candidate in Wisconsin Congressional District 1. And of course our candidate for President, Vice President Kamala Harris. This canvass will also focus on getting out the vote for Wisconsin's August Primary and defeating two confusing ballot amendments that would limit Gov. Evers powers to designate funds.
