Tuesday, July 30 - Fair Elections Event 8/12 / DNC Watch Party 8/21

Actions You Can Take

Action 1: Fair Elections Event 8/12

Chicago is now the largest US city without any public financing system. Without public financing our alderpeople who are not independently wealthy, maybe subject to relying on larger donors for a campaign. Realistically that tends to subvert our democracy. Only wealthy folks can run, or they are more subject to the wishes of their large doners, drowning out the voice of the majority of the population. If we, the people, want as strong a voice, we must have public funding made available to match our small dollar donations.

Come to Sultzer Library August 12th to listen to the details of the Fair Elections Ordinance proposed by Chicago’s Ethics Committee, chaired by Alderman Matt Martin (47th). There will be time to understand the realistic financial commitment this would impose on Chicago; the safeguards against fraud written into the ordinance and the basis for believing this ordinance would move our City another step towards more democracy. RSVP here

This Ordinance is endorsed by co hosted by Asian American Midwest Progressives, Indivisible Lincoln Square and Indivisible Chicago Alliance and endorsed by the above groups as well as Citizen Action of Illinoi, JCUA Votes, League of Women Voters, Reform Illinois and The Peoples Lobby.
